NEWS ALERT -- Takoma Regional and Laughlin Memorial hospitals joined forces this morning to announce their partnership in promoting CREATION Health in our community.
A new wellness initiative called CREATION Health was announced Tuesday at a community event hosted by Takoma Regional and Laughlin Memorial hospitals.
More than 175 area leaders attended the early morning breakfast at the General Morgan Inn, during which the new program was unveiled. CREATION Health is a lifestyle program that advocates small changes that can improve overall wellness in eight areas that spell “CREATION” – choice, rest, environment, activity, trust in a divine power, interpersonal relationships, outlook and nutrition.
The program is funded by a $300,000 matching grant from Adventist Health System, which co-owns Takoma with Wellmont Health System. Additional funding is being provided by Laughlin and Scott Niswonger.
“This is an exciting day for our community as we announce a new health initiative that has united our two hospitals for a common purpose,” Daniel Wolcott, Takoma’s president and CEO, said. Added Chuck Whitfield, Laughlin’s president and CEO: “We believe this important initiative will have a significant impact on our community’s health.”
According to Greene County health rankings, 29 percent of local residents smoke, compared to 23 percent statewide and 13 percent nationwide. Additionally, 32 percent of Greene Countians are obese with body mass indexes above 30, and 34 percent of local residents do not exercise.
Erin Franklin (pictured), the CREATION Health coordinator, will promote the healthy principles in the community. She is available to make presentations of CREATION Health at businesses, organizations, churches and schools.

it is being implemented in Greene County. Beginning this month, Franklin will lead Greene Valley
employees through an 8-week seminar, which will show them how each of the eight
areas directly impacts their overall health and well-being. The goal is to
teach participants how to begin making small changes in each area which can
lead to increased longevity and quality of life for the individual, as well as
increased productivity and decreased health care costs.
